An Italian lacca povera, painted and parcel gilt bureau cabinet, Venice, circa 1740, the cream ground decorated with foliage and landscape scenes, the arching cornice surmounted by a central scrolling foliate crest, the upper section having two panelled doors with applied mouldings opening to reveal shelves to the painted interior, the lower section having a fall front with applied mouldings, surmounted by candle slides, opening to reveal a faux field maple and gilded writing surface, the interior fitted with a central compartment flanked by four small drawers, above three long serpentine fronted drawers with brass knob handles, supported on bracket feet, 250 cm high, 110 cm wide, 60 cm deep
