Imperial German King Ludwig II (1864 -1886) Diplomat's court sword and scabbard blade length, 79 cm with blue and gilt etchings of floral and scrolled panels, studded gilt hilt with turn down shell cross guard showing a resting lion surrounded by wreaths and roses. The grips are made from mother of pearl, showing on one side, the coat of arms of the Bavarian King and the other being left blank as per court custom. The floral back strap and knuckle bow meet at the lion head pommel, and clam shell thumb rest. The thread work is all present and in good condition. Length 93 cm
