World War I British army Distinguished service Order and 1914 star bar trio, court mounted group Awarded to Colonel George Browse (M.D.) of the Indian medical service. George V era Distinguished service Order- (London Gazette 25th August 1917 & Honours & Awards page 230) 1914 star with bar named in impressed capitals: MAJ. G. BROWS, I.M.S. Included is the original miniature medals, which have also been display court mounted. Very fine condition overall, showing little or no wear. Age patina commensurate with age. His medal Index card shows the service medals were issued by the Government of India, with the 1914 star being issued on the 11th of February 1919. Research shows that Colonel George Browse was born in 1892, disembarking with the British Expeditionary Force on the 26th of September 1914, being a medical officer with the 112th Indian field ambulance. He was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel, whilst with the 3rd Lahore division on the 16th of January 1917, Colonel on the 2nd of February 1919, retiring in 1927. He is listed as having died in 1959. The date of the D.S.O gazette shows awards for Hill 60, Battle of Messines, Wytschaete and Monchy. However, it is more likely to be an award for actions fighting the ottoman forces in the Middle East, especially in Mesopotamia, given his service around that time with the 3rd Lahore division.
