An inscribed copper gilt plaque, Nepalese, circa 19th century within a ring of flames and above a lotus base is an image of the four-armed emaciated goddess Chamunda, trampling on a corpse, her left foot resting on a lotus. She holds her attributes – a skull drum, a skull-topped trisula and a skull cup, her principal right hand in a gesture of warning. Chamunda is the form of Kali, a protectress who slew demons and drank their blood. Height 9 ¼ inches (23.5 cm)
