Apart from a couple of pale spots on the frontis. and engraved title of Vol. 1, and some very light offsetting from a few plates, this is an unusually clean and crisp copy; Evans, [Sir] Arthur. the Palace of Minos at Knossos: a Comparative Account of the Successive Stages of the Early Cretan Civilization As Illustrated By the Discoveries: Volume IV: Part I: London, Macmillan & Co., 1935.14 plates (4 in colour), 315 illustrations and plans, folding plan in pocket at back, xxxv,378pp., 4to., publisher's cloth gilt with vignette. There is a very small neat gift inscription at the top corner of the front flyleaf, and a trace of rubbing at tips, but a near-fine copy.The titlepage continues - Emergence of Outer Western Enceinte, with New Illustrations, Artistic and Religious, of the Middle Minoan Phase: Chryselephantine 'Lady of Sports', 'Snake Room' and Full Story of the Cult: Late Minoan Ceramic Evolution and 'Palace Style'. with Figures 1-315 in the Text, Plans, and Coloured and Supplementary Plates.
