A petite late 18th century Venetian mirror, painted in the Chinoiserie style in parcel gilt and vermillion. The rococo shield shaped carved frame surmounted by floral and cloud form pediments. 66.5 cm x 45 cm. Along with an associated mahogany, lead weighted table stand. Provenance: Mrs. Venetia James (1861-1948) (nee Cavendish-Bentinck) the godmother of Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother, [inscribed verso: 14/7/48 Mrs Arthur James, Coton Hall, Rugby, Godmother to Queen Elizabeth]; purchased by our vendor's mother c.1963 from a Rev. Mr. Burr, Stow-on-Wold.
