A suite of nine Japanese marine ivory shrine statuettes, comprising a study of the Amitabha Buddha seated in samahita mudra upon a plinth carved with overlapping upright lotus leaves; two studies of the goddess of mercy, Kannon, depicted standing, one hand with vase pouring healing waters, the other raised holding a rice sheaf; along with three further smaller studies of the Amitabha Buddha; and three female bosatsu.
