Model 1822/1845 Infantry officers sword belonging to Lieutenant-Colonel Charles Stapp a non-commissioned officer arriving in New Zealand in 1845 with the 58th Regiment serving in the War in Northland and attack on Ohaeawai after which returning to England and gained a commission, after serving in the Crimean War he returned to New Zealand rejoining the 58th in 1857 and in 1859 appointed Adjutant of the Taranaki Militia. On the 21st March 1872, Major Atkinson, on behalf of the officers of the Taranaki district presented him with a field officers sword. Made by Hobson & Sons, London engraved fullered single edge blade with wire bound shagreen grip, brass guard with crowned crossed sword and scabbard, laurel crest in polished brass scabbard 88 cm blade length together with sword stick, Toledo blade in plain fruitwood sheath with sterling silver finial and walking cane with antler handle, sterling silver collar with presentation inscription gifted by Central School Cadets, New Plymouth
