Post war West German paratrooper experimental helmet with painted camo outer shell and is a Fallschirmjager Versuchshelm Bundeswehr 1955-1961 Paratrooper helmet. The helmet's design were based on the German World War I M38 helmet. It is understood that there were only about 2,400 of these experimental helmets made. in 1961, these 'old style experimental' helmets were replaced in favour of the US M1 styled helmet with the liner similar to that used in World War I. Apart from the size 59 stamped on the liner, there appears to be no other markings on the helmet. The inside of the helmet is protected by pages from the 'Sun-Herald' dated December 17 1987.
