A large and Quite rare late 19th century French Samson-style copy of a Chinese lidded ginger jar, decorated in famille rose flowering shrubs within underglazed blue and gilded spearhead bands, encompassing two lion and wolf pseudo-armorials. This style of decoration is often found on French copies bearing the mark of Edme Samson's Studio, which continued at various addresses from the 1830s until its closure in 1969. His copies were in turn copied by other decorators, either freelancing or moonlighting. The absence of a mark and the manner of decoration of the armorial, suggest this May have been made by an apprentice at Samson's Studio. Good condition, minor wear only. Height 25 cm
