Description:
A fine and very rare 18th century Chinese porcelain Hu vase, decorated in an underglaze blue collar and skirt with two panels of figures within a wave, hat and ruyi sceptre head surround. Iron brown rim, elephant head handles, one cafe au lait and one plain band, all on a celadon ground. No mark. Note: Our expert has seen two similar vases previously; one in underglaze red with a Ming Xuande mark, the other in underglaze blue with a Qing Qianlong mark, both deemed to be of 18th century dating. A third, catalogued as 19th century in underglaze red, was sold at Christies south Kensington on 9 November 2011. Good condition, minor wear and firing faults only. Height 38 cm
