Peter Stichbury, an important and rare early 1960s stoneware vase, the ovoid vase with textured surface with ash glaze over tenmoku, impressed initials to the base. Height 31 cm, in late 1958 Peter Stichbury began working and studying with Michael Cardew at the Abuja pottery training centre in Nigeria becoming his first Western pupil. During his time at Abuja Stichbury worked with Cardew and Ladi Kwali, the influence of both of these potters can be seen in this vase.
