An old large carved Chinese jade figure of a recumbent buffalo, modelled in a classical pose with head turned to the left, fine incised detail to the tail and other areas, good deep mid-green colourway with some darker inclusions. Raised on later carved conforming hardwood sand. This lot and others sold previously by Cordy's have come from the estate collection of the late Mr Charles Cox (passed away 1992), an Auckland businessman who collected through his entire life, after collecting European porcelain, he then developed an interest in oriental items. He purchased throughout New Zealand with 'many items purchased from Cordys auctions', the majority of his collection was gathered through the 1960s and 1970s. His family note that his collecting was an all consuming passion. 13.5 cm x 8 cm x 6.5 cm
