An impressive George III silver basket of Adams style, with batwing shaped borders with superb pierced and engraved bright-cut decoration for which the maker was noted, reeded loop handle and rim, London 1790 by Henry Chawner, a maker sought after for his fine quality allied often to bright-cut engraving. Provenance: The Lord Long of Wiltshire, engraved with a Coat-of-Arms associated with the Long family: in the sinister on a sable field a lion rampant framed by eight cross crosslets, in the dexter on a sable field a chevron argent and three fleur-de-lis; seated upon an ermine cape.
