A rare Chinese limestone commemorative pillar, Northern Song, dated 998. The hexagonal pillar supported on a circular lotus base and bearing several inscriptions, 'Villagers of Da Ming Fu, Chao Cheng County, Da Ming City' (one of the four major capitals of the period, today known as Beijing) 'made this censor on the 4th of March, 998'. The inscriptions go on to identify the names of the donors, good patination to the stone, approx. 76 cm high, 52 cm diameter. Provenance: From an important Australian private collection
