Victory Medal 1914-18 to 12691 Lieut. A. H. Grierson. N.Z.E.F. An Officer accused of being a German Spy Grierson was born in the UK and lived in Germany for a year before the first World War being fluent in the German language. Later he emigrated to NZ. Such was the hysteria of the time several people who knew him in Auckland reported him and a crusade was launched against him by John Payne M.P. and the 'Women's Anti- German League. He was interrogated by the Minister of Defence, the Chief of General Staff and the Minister of Internal Affairs. The transcription of this interrogation occupies 18 pages of his military file.
