A rare Australian made Art Deco period silver christening mug, of plain tapering circular section with a geometric handle and circular base. Maker's mark W.J. Sanders, Sydney. William Sanders arrived in Sydney from Birmingham, England, in 1911 and established his own business. In 1924 he moved to Bowen's Building at 1 Lee Street, Railway Square. The four hallmarks 'W.J.S.', '925' and the characteristic 'STG' together with an 'Elephant's Head' have been used by W.J. Sanders since 1915. The elephant's head has its origin in the coat-of-arms of the Sanders family. Height 7.5 cm
