Rare pounamu adornment, very early archaic flattened tear drop form with evidence of two pierced suspension holes and linear notching to edges. This adornment would have signalled the mana and high rank of its creator and the owner. Its fine elongated form is without doubt the work of a master craftsman. This rare pounamu May have been used in the ceremonial practice and sacred production of the finest muka (flax fibre) the adornment would be applied to making the most complex and finest of chiefly cloaks used to forge political alliances and communicate rank and status.
