Early ivory Divination Tappers two ivory divination tappers with fine patination and cross hatched carved handles. 18th-19th century. Divination objects enabled communication with gods, spirits and ancestors. This ritual was practiced to explain and prevent misfortunes and influence one's fate the tappers were tapped to summon and welcome the spirits the quality of the pieces was important to the diviner's status and inspired confidence in their skill.
