A large and impressive modern Murano glass sculpted mammoth by Walter Furlan, born 1931 in Chioggia, a small town near Venice. Note: this piece is made using the massello technique of sculpting a solid mass of 'partially plastic' glass, it is noted that Furlan when associated with the shop of Gino Cenedese after the Second World War 'showed the world what can be done with sculpted 'a massello'. After meeting Picasso at the 1963 Murano Exhibition organised by the Istituto Veneto per il Lavoro that his art truly hit its peak, in the early 70s Furlan joined the Seguso Vetri d'Arte Glassworks learning further techniques and stylised forms under the guidance of Seguso and Poli.
