An impressive Chinese porcelain inverse baluster shaped jar, decorated in underglaze blue with lotus flowers and foliate tendrils, in the Ming manner, two bands of stylised lappet designs decorate the shoulder and rim, a band of stylised tall lappet encircles the foot. Raised on a dark rosewood stand of low square form detailed with lotus scrolls and incorporating scrolling feet. This large jar was bought at a charity auction at the Mandarin Hotel, Hong Kong, c.1975 (or earlier) by Lieutenant Kim Hall from Sotheby's auctioneers who conducted the charity auction, for a price of 1100 guineas. The jar and the base have been drilled for wiring as a lamp. Overall height 51.5 cm
