A good Chinese Ju wood tapering upright cabinet (Gui), Qing Dynasty, 18th-19th century, with well figured timber, two interior shelves and two drawers, removable doors, bronze fittings, lacquered interior. 200 cm high, 109 cm wide at top (110 cm wide at base), approximately 51 cm deep. Provenance: R & V Tregaskis, purchased mid-1990's, *see Wang Shixiang 'Classic Chinese Furniture', p 213, pl 142 for a very similar Ming, Ju wood cabinet; p18 'Ju wood…harder than most woods and plays an important role in Ming and early Qing furniture.'
