Description:
A South Australian Royal Victorian Fusiliers silver presentation cup and cover, c.1880, by Henry Steiner, Adelaide, having a cylindrical body with engraved foliate decoration with a cast figural finial of a soldier in period uniform. The cup is inscribed 'R.V.F. Presented by Doctor James to Y.P. No 1 Company January 1882'. The reverse is inscribed 'Won by private D. Beurs March 5 & 19 1882', with makers stamp H. Steiner, Adelaide, and with additional marks, lion passant, and Queen Victoria monarchs head and Crown. Height 29 cm weight 312grams. Listed in J.B. Hawkins publication Australian silver 1800-1900, Macarthur press Pty Ltd 1973 Sydney, item 92 page 72.
