Bronze bust of Salvator Rosa with sword. Palate and brushes in a swashbuckling pose on brown marble base and with name plaque signed E. Picault (Emile Louis Picart 1881-1973) Salvatore Rosa, Italian Baroque painter. As a painter he is best known as unorthodox and a rebel, some say he spent time with roving bandits while learning Art. Rosa was the first to paint romantic landscape. He pursued the arts, music, poetry, writing, etching and acting. His work is dramatic and constrasts the calm of Claude Lorrain. J.M.W. Turner acknowledged Rosa’s influence. Height 67 cm
