A pair of Charles Pollock leather Sling 657 chairs by Knoll. Charles Pollack is best known for the 'Pollock Executive chair' designed for Knoll Associates in 1963. It took five years to develop and is one of the Knoll's most memorable and commercially successful designs. The chair quickly became an icon of the time and cemented Pollock's place as a leading mid 20th century industrial designer. Pollock was always destined for greatness, after graduating from New York 's prestigious Pratt Institute in the early 1950's, he joined George Nelson's design Studio. During this time he worked on the ground breaking Swag leg chair, based on an idea he began developing while at Pratt. In 1958 Pollock stepped out on his own, opening a smal Studio above a drug store in Brooklyn. It was there that he created his first product for Knoll, the model 657 Sling chair. The Sling chair with its tubular steel frame and thick leather sling is a bold satement in modern design and has since become a coveted design classic
