Korowai cloak. This korowai has double-pair twining with two areas of tailored shaping; crafted from dressed flax fibre (muka) and highlighted with orthodox double thrums of dyed black wool. Decorative elements are enhanced with contrasting woollen colour panelling indicating a transitional style. The cloak was presented to Samuel Stanley Cox by local Maori as a token of their affection and appreciation. It was subsequently passed to Vincent Cox in 1933 and passed to his mother in 1954.
