A beautifully carved Chinese jade seal ink box of oblong shape with chamfered corners, the lid with an archaic border design, within which are 14 (untranslated) Chinese characters. The jade is a very pale celadon, almost mutton fat in colour, probably Hetian (Hotan). Comes with an old wood stand, incised with the name HANS underneath. Age uncertain, possibly Republic period or earlier, but prospective buyers must bid on their own judgment. From a private collection in Switzerland. Good condition. 7 x 5.5 x 1.9 cm
