Superb 9 Carat gold cigarette case, engraved inside 'To a Master Cricketer, from a humble follower of cricket Digvijaysinhjiof Nawanagar. To replace a loss suffered and to commemorate a brilliant century at Jamnagar'. Hallmarked 'H&R Ltd', weight 212 grams. Maharaja Jam Sri Digvijaysinhji Ranjitsinhji (1895-1966), was the nephew of famed cricketer K. S. Ranjitsinhji. He was adopted by Ranjitsinhji, and succeeded him as Maharaja in 1933. The gold cigarette case was probably presented to Albert Wensley, who played 400 First-Class matches for Sussex, Auckland, Nawangar & Europeans 1922-48; he was recruited as captain of Nawanagar, and scored the first First-Class century at the Jamnagar ground in October 1937
