Early giant tewhatewha, in orthodox gigantic form with chiefly status as a weapon of command. The significant size suggests it was a 'war maker' used to stake the ground which was to be fought for and protected. Some impact damage apparent on blade. Manaia with paua missing on lower shaft. Rich dark patina. Height 150 cm. Width 26.7 cm
