A rare and superbly carved ceremonial Maori paddle carved all over by a master carver. The front curved side of the blade has two ancestor figures and two manaia figures, and another small manaia is located toward the bottom. Rear side of the blade is incised with kowhaiwhai design, which also extends up the handle to a manaia head on the end. Paua shell eyes. at least one paua shell eye missing. One of a pair, but the carving is different on each. Length 182 cm.
