Description:
A painting of the Ship 'City of Hobart'. Flag At top with initials T. S. N. Co. (Tasmanian Steamship Navigation Company). Signed and dated J. W. Deering 1856. This was painted on its maiden voyage from Lancashire UK. Has been reframed at some time. Surveyor and amateur marine painter who arrived in Australia in 1855. Deering regularly exhibited his paintings with the New South Wales academy of Art and in the Agricultural Society Intercolonial Exhibitions. He won a number of prizes for his work.
