A Chinese boxed ivory chess set in carved ivory, 19th century or Republic, carved in the form of the Ming Imperial court, each side with Emperor, his Consort, noble advisers, or bishops, mounted warriors as knights, the rooks in the form of Buddhist lions, and the eight immortals as the pawns, tincture applied to the 'Black' pieces, complete with hinged box in veneer opening to a fitted interior. 33.2 cm x 14.7 cm (box closed).
