A Royal Doulton Kateroo vase by D.H. Souter, circa 1910, with three stylised cats and verse 'East, West, Hames Best', signed H Souter, printed mark, 10.5 cm high. Notes: David Henry Souter (1862-1935) was born in Scotland and after spending time in South Africa, settled in Sydney in 1887. He worked for the printer John Sanders before joining William Brooks & Co as an illustrator. His cartoons appear in the Tribune and Bulletin. Doulton used his Kateroo figure on a range of wares
