A box of New Zealand native timbers, fashioned to appear as a book, the rimu spine sliding to allow the lid to slide open, the lid, frame, walls and back of various patterned timbers including mottled and figured kauri, burr totara and rewarewa, the carcass of kauri. An associated note inside on letterhead of George Howard, Auckland cabinetmaker notes the details of the presentation of the box in 1905 to a Mrs McKeown. 17.5 cm x 27.5 cm x 6 cm
