An important Muriel Moody (1907-1991) large Pottery sculpture of a standing woman, long flowing skirt, her hand raised above her head supporting a vessel surmounted by a pelican, thick turquoise glaze highlights the bird, vessel, hair and clothing of the woman, all-over rubbed dark red/brown oxide, mounted on a rectangular base. Height 1210. Provenance: from the Franklin Womens Club, Pukekohe, donated to the club in memory of Mrs H. Insull, secretary from 1966-1970 by her daughter. note: Muriel Moody became the inaugural president of the New Zealand Society of Potters in 1963 and remained very involved in the New Zealand pottery and art scene hosting international visitors such Hamada Shogi and Kawai Takeichi in the 1960s, etc. in the late 1960s and early 1970s she was an executive member of the Crafts Council
