Kohno Classic No.3 Guitar, spruce top, Indian rosewood body, ebony fingerboard. Masuru Kohno Luthier Tokyo, Japon label internally and inscribed No.3, 1965. Original Lewis Eady label on rear of head. With original case, additional strings and ephemera. Length 100 cm, catalogue note: Masuru Kohno (1926 – 1998)isa revered luthier whose vintage guitars are collected internationally and have been played by classical masters such as Julian Bream Oscar Gighlia, and Sharon Isbin. In 1967 Kohno was awarded the Gold Medal at the Elizabeth's Concourse International Guitar Building Competition in Belgium. One of Gray’s favourite guitars and one he has owned since new, it boasts an extensive concert and recording history including his seven year stint on the Rolf Harris Show and on tour in New Zealand, Australia and the U.K. He also played this guitar on concert tours to Russia, Japan and China. It is the guitar played on one of the biggest selling international singles La Playa by a New Zealand artist which sold over 410 000 copies internationally and reached no 2 on the Japanese hit parade in the late 1960s.
