A Chinese boxed chess set in carved ivory, 19th early 20th century, finely carved in the form of the Ming Imperial court, each side with Emperor, his Consort, noble advisers,or bishops, mounted warriors as knights, the rooks in the form of elephants supporting crenellated fortress towers, and the eight immortals as the pawns, tincture applied to the 'Black' pieces. Complete with hinged fitted box in veneer opening to fashion the board on the exterior. 19 cm high to 11 cm high
