A fine Japanese Satsuma bowl, Meiji period (1868-1912), circular with flared straight sides, finely painted throughout in colours and gold on a cream ground, the exterior with diagonally divided fields painted with an extensive landscape and with birds amidst foliage, one side with two over-lapping reserves with groups of figures, the interior with geometric and floral decoration to the sides, to the bottom a group of ladies in an extensive landscape, unidentified signature to the base. Height 10.5 cm. Diameter 21 cm.
