An Admiral Fitzroy mid 19th century oak barometer. The barometer and thermometer on a lithograph printed paper dial. Provenance: Tradition has it that the barometer is Admiral Fitzroy?s barometer taken on expedition voyages with Darwin and given by Fitzroy to a sailor on board ship, the paper backing was then attached and it was passed to the sailor?s family and subsequently sold in 1950 to an English dealer from whom the present owner purchased it in England in that year. It has since been taken to Canada, South Africa and finally to Australia by the present owner.
