Description:
Silver mounted horse hoof box by Qwist, with mounted and engraved silver cover, gilt washed liner and horseshoe. Marks: C L Qwist/ Sydney to cover and base with additional '& Co'. Width 14 cm. Provenance: Vizard Foundation. 2001 Geelong Exhibition no 30. Notes: Qwist of Danish origin arrived on the Victoria goldfields in 1852. By 1860 he appears in Sydney in the employment of Hogarth, Erichsen & Co and made himself independent in 1864. Between 1875 and 1877 he is in partnership with T Clark when this article was probably created.
