Silver trophy cup by Henry Steiner, of chalice form, the deep bowl with sprays of flowers interspersed with ovals, one inscribed: 'South/ Australian/ swimming/ club -/ Champion/ cup./ 1872', the verso:' Presented/ by/ Ahf Bartels Esq/ Mayor of/ Adelaide/ won by/ Frank Moore.'. Marks: HSt (lion passant) (emu) ref Jbh no 190. Weight: 150 grams. Height 16.5 cm. Provenance: private collection. Notes: Adolph Bartels (1819-1878) was Mayor of Adelaide from 1871-1873., the swimming club appears to have commenced in 1862 and this particular meet was held on December 2nd.
