Australian silver mounted emu egg ornament on stand, probably by Henry Steiner, having a kangaroo mounted on a stained egg with ring drop handles, resting on spray of grape leaves supported by a kneeling Aborigine with applied loin cloth on rocky ground and stepped ebonised plinth. Marks: unmarked. Combined weight Without stand: 355 grams. Height 32 cm. Provenance: Vizard Foundation. Note: for an almost identical example see Jbh Vol II pp 102 and also refer to lot 167 in this catalogue for a similar supporting figure with a loose loin skirt. This figure appears to be an adaptation from Steiner's earlier association with Julius Schomburgk. For an example of Schomburgk's work see Jbh Vol II pp 37
