Silver & malachite presentation trowel, probably by J M Wendt, the foliate engraved handle inset with eight panels of malachite, leading to an unusual shaped tapered blade with foliate engraving and bearing the inscription: Presented/ to/ Mrs G S Jolley/ by a few friends/ on laying/ the foundation stone of/ the elephant & castle/ West Terrace/ Adelaide/ October 31st 1878. Marks: probably Wendt cancelled and inscribed a Hay. Combined weight: 180 grams. Length 29.5 cm. Provenance: private collection
