Notes: Although racing clubs in South Australia have along tradition in slightly different formats the Adelaide racing club is formed in 1888 after a hyatus of several years of horse racing because the government banned all forms of betting. William Knox Smith (-1897) was a businessman and politician who made his fortune in the brewery business to form later the South Australian Brewery Company.
