Notes: the Sturt Desert Pea was first found by the explorer William Dampier in 1699. It received its common name from Charles Napier Sturt (1795-1869) who in his last expedition in 1844 discovered large numbers of the pea. South Australia adopted the flower as its state emblem in 1961.
