Two rare gold Agricultural cups for Kilpatrick & Co, each of goblet form with a short bowl, having twin bright cut swags of ferns encircling a garter inscribed: 'Wool Show 1879/ Prize/ Given By/ Hastings Cunningham & Co. / Limited/ For Greasy Merino Wool Of/ the Highest Value Per Pound/ Wm Gibson & Son', the other inscribed 'Wool Show 1879/ Prize Given By/ Hastings Cunningham & Co/ Limited/ For the Most Valuable/ 50 Fleeces Greasy Merino Wool/ Won By/ Thos F Cumming Esq.', the verso with single figure of a merino raised on elongated stems and stepped foot. Marks: Kilpatrick/ 18CR. Combined weight: 235 grams; height 13.5 cm. Provenance: Vizard Foundation. 2001 Geelong Exhibition no 26 & 27. Notes: probably relating Hastings Cunningham who was a property speculator and wool merchant having subdivided pastoral land to found Mt Gambier in 1854-55. His Company opearting out of Melbourne became around 1881 the Australasian Mortgage & Agency Co Ltd.
