Group of New Zealand Interest Relating to Reverend James Buller (1812-1884), the silver chalice with deep bowl and sprays of flowers with a cartouche bearing inscription: 'Presented/ by the/ St Albans friends/ to the/ Rev. Ja.s Buller/ 1866', also included is his first edition book 'Forty Years in New Zealand ' 1874 (partly rebound), a hand coloured photo portrait and smaller example of Mrs Buller. For chalice only. Marks: Birmingham c1864 maker Derry & Jones. Weight:265 grams. Height 17 cm. Provenance: June pepper's descendant. Notes: James Buller wanted to be a Wesleyan missionary in the South Seas and stayed in Sydney for a brief period before departing in 1836 for New Zealand . Several objects relating to him are held in Australian public collections.
