Rare Australian silver mounted emu egg marked W. E. Toose, the oblong egg with vacant cartouche and bottlebrush handles, surmounted by a kangaroo mounted on malachite, on a finely engraved spreading stem and turned blackwood base. Marks paper label to base W E Toose Watchmaker Jeweller and C / 418 George Street Sydney. Overall height 28 cm. Provenance: Vizard Foundation.2001 Geelong Exhibition no 1. Notes: W. E. Toose is recorded operating a business from 1876 and is recorded at that address around 1888/ 1891, as an optician, watchmaker and jeweller with an interest in geology.
