Description:
Australian two tone 18 carat gold and natural pearl dress brooch, attributed to Alfred Lorking c1855, the pierced tapered back mounted with figures of vine leaves and a central cluster of grapes simulated by seed pearls. Marks: unmarked. Combined weight: 21 grams. Length 7.5 cm. Provenance: Vizard Foundation. Sotheby's, Melbourne, 2000, lot 542. Notes: Lorking was active during the 1950s located in the Goldsmith's hall, Sydney. His work was described as doing 'Great Credit to the Colony'. Sydney Morning Herald.24th January 1859.
