Description:
Bowl, c. 1820, engraved with fruiting vine on pedestal stem, height 10.5 cm; diameter 13 cm. Provenance: Uno Langman Vancouver, 1984. together with a Decanter and Stopper mid 19th century, claret-jug engraved on one side with 'Whisty' encircled with a floral wreath and on the other with a medallion of various flowers; facet-cut along the sides and around the neck; a thumb-piece on the handle; the hollow spherical stopper engraved with little circles and facet-cut around the stem, height 24 cm. Note the misspelling of 'whisky. ' The jug was generally known in England as a 'claret jug' but in America as a 'whisky jug,' hence this example maybe American. Provenance: Connoisseur, Toorak, 1985; together with an Flask engraved with hops and barley. (4)
